RARE & fascinating piece of history. Carved oak Victorian cupboard depicting figures from the RAGGED SCHOOL’S history. Started by John Pound 1766-1839. John Pound from Portsmouth (a cobbler) educated poor street children from his home from 1818. After he died, local women set up 200 free schools & there were 350 est by the 1870 Education Act. Lord Shaftesbury found the RAGGED SCHOOLS Union.
